Survived By Nearing Release
For nearly a year the subscribers to OBCT’s “Survived By” have gotten a track by track release delivered to them but now the final product is nearly at hand. With a handful of drum mixes still heading off to producer Nic Heidt’s studio the final renders of the 16+ track release will be OBCT’s next since 2009’s TOTAL CONTROL. Tracks are all available for free...

Track 10: Thieve On
Sometimes inspiration just strikes you and has you doing things you might not otherwise do. I was heading up to the studio to work on mixing down tracks for one of our latest works when the progression for “Thieve On” struck me, so I abandoned whatever i was doing and started up this ambitious title. I could hear this epic exchange of harmony and rhythm explode in my head as...

Track 9: Obamanation
I was doing something else, screwing around with guitar tones and pulling together some undoubtedly stupid, far-flug idea. I was also boy-sitting (I take care of a friends boys in my spare time) and Joshua was up with me in the studio, content enough bashing away on the drums and toying with the many knobs and buttons on my guitar processor. Out of nowhere I changed gears and played the now main...

"Reeling" from inhaling slowly...
The newest track for “Survived By” is called Reeling. I wrote this one in my head one day as I was sitting atop my throne contemplating my next great movement. Tapping my toes and hands and blathering out a bass line that sounded like something off of a scratched up George Clinton record. It seems some of my best stuff rattles around in my head for a while before I am able to get it...

The OBCT Subscription Service!
The OBCT “Survived By” Subscription :: $5.00 Over the years we’ve put out several albums DIY; paid a boat loaf of money to press it, worked our asses off selling them locally at shows, and tried our damndest to move them via the internet via services like cdBaby. It’s a whole process, a cumbersome, labor intensive process that more often than not seemed like fools errand...

OBCT a'chirping away!
OBCT, we don’t want to be one of those annoying bands always bugging random mainstream consumers to listen to us, but god damn it, I’m sick and tired of not being heard beyond our little local scene. Things have gotten real good for us and it’s time to put away the bashful, put-upon, struggling artist pants and put on the like-it-or-leave-it, go-fuck-yourself, salesman pants. I...

Help Alleviate the Anguish of CMAS
Does the mere thought of certain groups or one hit wonders leave you with feelings of revulsion or nausea? When you turn on your car radio are you overcome with the urge to put your head in a metal bucket and pound on it with a hammer until you black out or thrust sharpened pencils deep into your ears in hopes to rupture the eardrum and (with any luck) pierce your brain?
If so, you may be one of...

PophorsePodcasts::OBCT
We took to airwaves (sort of) this Friday for one of the first OBCT podcasts! We were a little short staffed but we were joined by Reverend Revolution who gave us some great insights on religion as we counted down the top ten signs that you’re a fundamentalist Christian. Geoff, Dave, Jenny and The Reverend take a listen to a few OBCT songs, examine god, love and the devil as well as check...

It's nearly here
Last night Booty and I went down to our producer Nic Heidt’s place to polish up the mixes on the first five tracks we are releasing for “Survived By,”. They turned out really great! Having a producer to help cut the crap and get the best sound is a wonderful thing, he’s got his ideas on how things should be, we have our slightly different, bass heavy, cluttered, take and...

"Survived By," Preview
For the better part of the decade we’ve taken to the studio to record our work, to package it and to deliver it to the public at large. Since 2003 we’ve had a record in production one way or another; we’re either writing, tracking instruments, sequencing drums and synths, recording vocals, rehearsing or just toying around with sound and we’ve got plenty to show for it. ...

Tripping the light fantastic, et al.
A little bit ago, I was reminiscing about a production of Medea I saw at the Jeune Lune with my high school English class on a field trip. Naturally, most of us were not of the mindset or maturity to be the usual audience members for a Greek tragedy, but we went just to get out of class. However, as the play got going, the giggling and chatter stopped cold. I sensed a profound change in the air...

Cover: I Could Have Lied
For Christmas 2009 I decided to put together a CD for my wife who is the #1 OBCT supporter, Jenny. I wanted to do something special for her that she’d never forget. One of her favorite songs is off of The Red Hot Chili Peppers album “Blood Sugar Sex Magic” called “I Could Have Lied” which is a acoustic guitar song with a real haunting melody to it. I decided...

Studio Update (4.8.10):
For many years we’ve struggled to get a drum sound that we could use in high quality recordings. We’d always relied on sequenced drums in the past for our records so having to record Mikey’s drums had become our biggest challenge as well as a source of frustration. We’d tried a whole host of options but nothing really gave us the sound we craved. In 2008 Tim Zilch came...

Sniff this.
AAAaaaahhh, Love that new website smell. It’s a mix of dust on a motherboard and stale beer wafting up from the studio computer. The smell of victory over HTML. It’s the smell of the impending shit-storm of posts, tracks, art projects, videos, and so much home cooked industrial punk rock that you will abandon all else and become one with THE OBESE! So take a listen through our...
